It’s time for another edition of Freedom Friday! This week I am sharing an AMAZING recipe with you i came up with last year! It is a great GO-TO appetizer for last minute guests! I hope you enjoy it, and ake sure to LIKE, TWEET, PIN, COMMENT, & SHARE! 🙂
Ok so they are not FRIED, per se, but rather BAKED… but these tasty appetizers are still totally amazing! And better yet, they are super-easy to make! Here is what you do:
Cut in half your favorite brand of low-fat or 2% mozzarella cheese sticks, and place on plate in freezer. Ideally, these would set in the freezer for 1-2 hours, but if you are in a rush, 30 minutes will be sufficient.
Next, preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Line a cookie sheet with foil, and spray with Pam.
Then you are ready to line up for assembly. Fill the first bowl with whole wheat flour. Fill the second bowl with one beaten egg, and the third bowl with some panko bread crumbs, garlic salt, black pepper, and oregano, and whisk together until evenly mixed.
Remove the frozen pieces of string cheese, and one by one dunk each first in the flour mixture until evenly coated, then the egg, then carefully roll in the panko mixture. Be sure that all sides of the cheese are coated in breadcrumbs, then gently place on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with remaining breadcrumbs.
Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and just begins to seep out. Remove and serve immediately with marinara sauce for dipping.
These are a great appetizer for holiday parties and entertaining!
I highly recommend you must read the eBook on what you need to have for starting a business in Tampa, I believe you’ll get a lot out of it. If you haven’t claimed yours, go and grab it now for free! See you inside – I can’t wait to start working with you! We’re better together!
pinning for later -thanks for sharing
This sounds delish! I have some cheese curds in the freezer right now! Mine won’t be as healthy ;-( I have to make them gluten free and the only way I know to do that is with a batter. But these sound really good and HEALTHY!
Yum! Looks good and healthy, Holly!
So THAT’s how you keep the cheese from melting into a gooey mess before it goes in your mouth! The freezer. Duh. Thanks for this.
I didn’t realize you could bake these, yum! The panko looks like a delicious alternative to the usual breadcrumbs. Healthy mozzarella sticks..who knew?
Oh my gosh who would have thought of that. I will be making this for hubby and the kids. My hubby’s favorite appetizer of all times. Thanks so much!
Sounds very tasty. Might have to give these a go
Pfft, who needs fried when baked is SO much better! Thanks!
Yummy! I think I would buy the fresh mozzarella logs and slice them. I might add Italian seasoning rather than just oregano. But freezing them is a GREAT tip!
These look terrific. I pinned it to my wall and look forward to making them this weekend.
Looks so delicious! This indeed would be a great appetizer recipe not only for the holiday parties but also even in ordinary days. What kind of beverage do you think would go well with this recipe?
Looks delicious Holly!! Thanks for sharing, will have to try. I created a pinboard just to pin this on haha 🙂
